Is $180 worth it?

This weekend was spent at the Marysville Riverbottoms Soccer Park.  Saturday I refereed four games: three were competitive, two U-12 girls and a U-14 girls; one was a U-12 recreational game.

Then, on Sunday, I AR'd two mens games.

$180 later, I'm starting to wonder what happened to the weekend?

Harness Winter

I imagine that everyone should have at least one pair of boots to wear during the cold of winter.  Despite living in Northern California, where we get 65 degrees in November and nearly 10 hours of sunlight all winter, it can get pretty cold in the morning, not to mention we'll eventually have a rain again.  I'm also planning a couple trips this winter to even colder climates (think Reno, San Fransisco & mountains), so I really need proper footwear that'll keep my feet warm and dry but matches with all my clothes and still be super comfotable

Harnes boots will fit all my needs superbly.  And while these Frye's boots are amazing, I'm not sure I'm totally willing to do the $218 of damage just yet.  However, I have found a great pair of harness boots from Target that should do the trick for only $50.  I just really hope I can find them in my size.

To Write Love On Her Arms

Don't forget to write the word "Love" on your arm today.

Why?

To Write Love On Her Arm (TWLOHA) is an organization formed to help young people battle depression, self-injury, eating disorders and addiction and replace it with love.  Although easily treatable, only about 1 in 3 people struggling with depression seek out and undergo treatment; suidicide is the third-leading cause of death amoung people aged 18 to 24.
Thanks to the Facebook event, over 35,000 people pledged to write the word "Love" on their arms today.  Write the word on your arm, but don't forget the deeper meaning behind it.  Here is what Jamie Tworkowski, a founder of TWLOHA has to say:

"If you are/were one of the many participating in "TWLOHA Day", we want to say thank you. We didn't really have anything to do with it - this was just a case of people getting excited and wanting to do something and then that thing spreading... One thing we want to say is that our desire for this day and in general is that TWLOHA is meant to be about much more than writing a word on your arm. Don't get us wrong - we're not against that... we just think it's important that all of us stay focused on the heart of the matter, which is what that word (LOVE) means. What does it mean to love someone? What does it mean to love people who are hurting? What does it mean to love yourself? What does it mean to live a life that runs after hope and help and community? It's easy to write the word. It's another thing entirely to live the life. Let's live the life."

So here's what my arm looks like today:

Information is Beautiful

Well, it's time to add yet another item to my wishlist.  But this time it's a book.

The Visual Miscellaneum by David McCandeless visualizes information into fun to just look at graphs of all sorts.  Based in London, he's an "author, writer and designer" who has made all kinds of numbers interesting and asthetically pleasing.  To see more work head on over to his blog.

It's available for purchase at Amazon or the old-fashioned way at Barnes & Nobel.

Wish List - Bath Robe

Item # 2 - Bath Robe

I would like a bath robe, just a plain one; it doesn't need to be fancy, I don't care if it's white or a solid color but I would prefer that it not be patterned.

Here's an example of one like I like from Bath and Body Works:

Wish List - Tawny Acre Boots

I've decided that I'll create a wish list section of this blog, posted randomly whenever I find something that I think I can't live without or that I just want.

Anyways, here's items number one:

Tawny Acre Boots by Anthropologie
At $248, they are pretty pricey, but if you can get five or more years out of a pair of quality leather boots, you can make up for the initial investment.
